How on dominus do i get my characters to be sane again?

I've tried to cure them with ring of sanity, scroll of sanity, kill them and bring them back to life, resting... whatever. Nothing seems to work.

Marten's Helm doesn't seem to work. I have it on my Mage (smartest character in my group) and i have him talk to marten, and they all go insane. I rest after speaking with marten and nothing changes.

How do i get my characters back to normal?

Only the character wearing the Serenity Helm can safely carry the DD. If anyone else tries, or its carried in party inventory, all will be insane.

Seems to me [first game, when I didn't know the secret] that after I gave the DD to the right character, it still took a few minutes for the others to recover.

i did everything but that... :/

that would explain why each character says something about keeping it, each time i tried something different, when talking to Marten.
