...when you have gone to great pains to save your spell picks, you get to Level 9 and finally decide to take one, just so your Bishop can throw a fireball, and the very next NPC you encounter sells a Book of Fireballs?! AAUGH!! :D

You can buy or find all the L1-5 spells in books.

Gotta hate it. You will remember it when you play next game though.

Take heart: mage 77 has a list of where spell books can be had-- makes all the difference in the world when trying to develope a really awesome bishop.

Also, you can sell that book for about half the money needed to buy an equivalent book from crock, etc.
