For those of you who have played Wizards & Warriors, what is it like compared to the Wizardy Series? I have never played a game of the series, but im addicted to W & W and figure on giving Wiz 8 a shot. I know both games are made by the same guy, D W Bradley, so i figure it has to be a good game. All opinons are appreciated, thx.

I think that Wizardry 8 is 10 times better than W&W and a lot bigger to and better grapic and story line.

Wizardry 8 is THE game...

I couldn't take three steps in W&W without the game crashing, so it got uninstalled quickly. No problems with Wiz8.

I bought it whaile wating for Wiz8 (I live in Europe), but I haven't finished it yet (busy now with Wiz8).

I think it's an OK game. It has, no surprise, some features similar to wiz8, but these are not as thoroughly worked out and it's very unpolished. Playing it as a prelude to wiz8 was OK. Playing it after will be an anticlimax.

Wizards and Warriors is a far better game than Wizardry 8.
Apply the 1.0 patch and unless you're running XP it'll be fine, I've had no problems with crashes at all.

Plus points-

1- Combat in W&W is fast and immediate, no wiggle, wiggle, wiggle 1 Ironweed moves, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, 2nd Ironweed moves, yaaaawwwwn. 1 hour later, wiggle wiggle, 9th Ironweed dies of boredom.

2- No spaceships

3- No innapropriate races, ie wookies.

4- You feel a great sense of involvement with your guys

5- The world- You say Wiz 8 is more expansive?, no way the W&W world is huge and varied.

6- Lots of control over your character development

7- Did I mention combat?.

8- Oh yes, combat doesn't take 1 hour per battle.

If you liked W&W, you’ll probably like Wiz8 too. W&W's creator DWB created wiz 5,6 and 7, but not 8. Yes, wiz8 has better graphics and the whole wonderful npc joining thing, but W&W has better combat (you can actually move around during combat, dodge targeted spells, attack and run, strategically block some monsters' attacks by positioning other monsters between yourself and the attacker, etc.), fit six people on a horse ;) ...

Also, wiz8 lacks W&W's excellent character development model, especially the ingenious way of developing skills through guild quests (makes side quests more than just a cosmetic way of earning exp).

And although wiz8 has an underwater section, it's not as interesting as the one in W&W. And the need to continuously find air pockets in W&W adds that little extra something that wiz8's unlimited scuba supply lacks.

In all, you'll probably like wiz8. I find it hard to list things I liked about it, as I can for W&W, but I did enjoy it, even though I have gone on record as being very critical of it at many points. I think my expectations were probably just too high after waiting a decade for it to come out. Worth the money and time though. Enjoy.

Oh yes, do install the patch!

I have played both W&W and W8 to completion. I will not play W&W again but I am on my second go through with W8.

My issues with W&W are
1. The really cool classes that can be obtained through quests are generally not available until almost the end of the game. By this point you have no time to develop that character without pointless random combat.

2. Character development was not up to the Wizardry standard.

3. No replay value at all.

W&W was an OK game but in my opinion W8 beats it hands down. Yes the combats can be a bit long at times but the character development and story line just sucked me in. I am from the old days of gaming so I guess I am just used to long combats.

My two main complaints with W&W are first the odd idea of having turn based combat for you and nearby monsters but still letting monsters further away move in real time. It could create some real nasty situations where monsters shot at you from a distance in real time while you were trying to combat in turn based.
This seeems to have been a consequence of the fact that the game was initially intended to be multiplayer.

The second was that the promotion quests had to be done by each character individually. Doing the same quest several times got rather boring. Just clicking through all the dialogue for each character individually was boring.

Desdicado made clear what different is between W&W and W8.
I agree at plus points 1,2 and 4 ( See Desdicado's message. )

I played W&W first and then I started to play W8 and didn't continue.
If I had started with W8 I propably would play it trought, but W&W is so much realistic than W8, that I don't bother to look at it before finished W&W.

My friend played W8 first an dsay it's better than W&W.
I started with W&W and say it's better than W8.

Well figure put your self who's right!
