This is my second go-round at the game; I have a party with 2 bishops and about 7 spell picks saved up for each; I wanted to get all the books I can before I started using spell picks.
The problem is, I'm now at Crock's place, and he only has 3 very minor spell books in his inventory, which I already know. On the lists I've seen, Crock has a number of high level spell books (Ring of Fire, Fire Bomb, etc.) that I would really like to get. However, no matter how many times I rest and come back, there are never any other spell books added. His inventory does change on other items, but I am interested in the books. The only thing I can see is that in my last game, I stole most of the books from him rather than buying them. Maybe somehow after a while he noticed and stopped putting his spell books out? I don't have the pickpocket "patch" installed (the one that makes them remember when you steal from them) What do you think the problem is? |
Buy (or steal) those books out of Crock's inventory. And a few other things to empty it out a bit. Then camp (I think the magic number was said to be 3? times) - and then check it.
I know this is a fix for one of Ferro's things - where he won't give you something if his inventory is full. So you buy (or steal) stuff out of his inventory, camp 3 times, and bang, it works. Crock may have the same "bug" to him. |
Crock won't sell you the nice books until your party average is L12.
Merchant inventories change every 24 'game' hours, in 8-hour sections. The first time you meet, and any time thereafter if you've been away or camping for long enough, you can reload the game (save just before you kiss the NPC) to change the random items. They are more likely to have the good stuff if their lists are short, so buying arrows does help, but not until they've got so many they're in bundles of less than 10, which you can sell back in 100's to shorten the list. (or just make trashheaps.) |
Well my rogue has 100 pickpocket natural, and plus bracers that up it to 120 pick pocket. So I went ahead and cleaned Crock out of his inventory - and I mean EVERYTHING. Went around the swamp, killed, camped, killed, camped, etc etc - came back - and Crock's inventory was restacked. Where originally I had only 4 books to steal - I suddenly now had over 12 books to steal from (all of them psionic, which was pointless for me as I have no psionic, but fun to steal anyway).
So it's a great trick. |
