Been so long since I've run a faery of any kind, am having trouble remembering some details.

Last game, with 4 hobbits, was drowning in [useless] spider silk. This game, with 4 faeries, not a bit of it.

So if you were after silk, where would you hang out? Also, can't remember if all big spiders drop it, or only a specific type...

Seems to me there are 2 skulls from a tomb available, one in cemetary, one in temple, so if the silk and venom crab shells available, shouldn't I be able to get two Xyrnex plates?

Must say the all faery party has been a lot of fun: nice amount of challange, esp. as there are so few fairyable items early on.

I'm not sure I've always found spider silk pretty hard to come across for me.

But Trynton's probably the best place to look. U know that level with the Fountain...as I remember there is a room nearby that always has two giant spiders. So u save kill them etc.

fung is right, there is a room in Trynton with two giant spiders that drop silks.
I would prefer Trynton and swamp to search for it.

I am traveling through Trynton with my party currently. I have encountered about three sets of Giant Spiders, all of whom have dropped silk. This was between the fountain which increases Int and the 4-way intersection for the Madras' place and the 4th and 5th bough. I think I also picked up silk from some spiders on the Trynton grounds (probably a random encounter), though they were not giant spiders, but some other variety. What are the benefits of Xyrnex plate, wrt a Fairy? Just curious since I have a fairy ninja in the party.

Note also that the more damage the killing blow (or spell) does, the more likely you'll get a drop.

The benefit of the Z-plate is that it has a good AC rating +6 for a faerie...

But don't worry about getting it for your faerie ninja...they cannot wear the Z-plate...

I know what you mean... when Wiz8 first came out, and I came here... there was a thread about 8 pages long about it.

And now I am replaying - have a faerie - and not a drop of silk. Not even from the above said room.

Got the exact same problem (looking for some silk for my fairy). Here is what I eventually did. I went to trynton. Since I had already killed the couple of spiders which usually cough up silk (but not in this game in which I have a fairy, heck) I camped on the area for some time. Some spiders came but none would give the silk.

Since this thread mentionned that objects are dropped more often if you strike harder here is what worked. I went to seventh bough where there are often big fights at the entry. Well I did not enter the large pagoda (?) where magic does not work but stayed just outside. I had first switched to expert mode to increase chances to meet monsters. There they came, the spiders. I struck pretty hard with tsunami (who said gadgetteers suck) and other level 7 spells. And there you go. I got my silk.
