Otter phrased it much better than me above, it is exactly what I was trying to say.

hence yeah I have just tried it....if u feel that your charc. is lacking in whatever realm...sometimes getting him to read books of spells that he is not eligible to learn will bump up both his magic (wizardry, alchemy etc.) school and/or spell realm.

Note: it is NOT a huge bump up of stats...it is quite marginal whether it is worth it is really up to you.
