I need the hammer of thunderbolts+3 (trying to forge the crom faeyr), so i need to get into the little mini-mind flayer room. It sounds easy, but the blue door won't open...I assume I need some key of some sort that I have yet to acquire? I tried knock, and Imoen's lock-picking; neither of which have worked of course.

To get the key, you need to do Lord Firkraag's quest. You can activate the quest simply by talking to him in the Copper Coronet.

Happen to know the item code? Perhaps I could create the key...go in and get the hammer, instead of creating the hammer before i pay 10k for the crom faeyr. I dislike artificially crating items :( -but i suppose making up the key wouldn't hurt my conscious too badly

Nah, Tazok has it. You definitely would have killed him, and it wouldn't be on the floor anymore even if you didn't pick it up.
