I'm getting kinda eagar to find the plain old hammer for my fighter, right now he is using a dagger. Coz I wanna wield it with his off-hand, and build up his maace skill to prepare for diamond eye.
I tried to purchase it in Arnika but no luck, I tried to purchase from Crook in the swamp but also can't find it. My fighter is currenrtly lvl 11. I'm currently playing in the swamp, where is my best bet of finding or buying a hammer? Thanx in advance |
???
I've found it on some monster, and randomly on some chest. |

Just use a main weapon, like Vi's stun mace. |
Antone in Arnika sells plain hammers. If you don't see one in his inventory, buy his common items (plain melee weapons, clear out his plain ammo too), drop it on the floor and rest there. He will eventually stock plain hammers.

Sounds like you are too early in for it to do you any good, but there is one in the ghost area of Lower Marten's...

Here are a few Hints for Merchant Inventories:
They restock every 24 hours, in 8-hour sections (eg. at 1500 Braffit might get some Lt heal, and at 2300 some Mod heal). Save just before kissing, if you reload the game, the inventory will change. If it's the first time you meet, all may change, and if you've been there before, you'll probably only change that 8-hour's segment. This is how i get Braffit to have 15 Mod Heals a day for mixing. They have a rather unlimited space, so this buying stuff doesn't do much until they've got so much ammo that their bundles have only 5 or so. My first time through, i discovered Mindread's value for practising (but not Mana Stones) and Mindread Crock until his arrows were in bundles of 3 and THEN i discovered Amulets of Healing. Without clearing his inventory, i got 12 of those in 12 days by reloading the game, without buying off the arrows. My third time through, i had started reading hints, and tried the buyoff thing, and yes, it does increase the chance of your finding what you seek. But reloading can save money and (game) time. Then again, if you drop all those arrows on one spot from the Inventory screen, you can create an interesting sculpture. |
Here is a good way to build up a specific weapon skil late in the game.
my lord wanted to use diamond eyes, but he had alwyas trained in sword + dagger, so both of those were 80+ while mace was 5. so what i did was: 1. hunt around till i found 2 maces/flails/hammers for both his hands... doesnt matter how much damage they do. 2. put all other party memebers on defend. 3. find a small group of medium level monsters with high HP (hogars are good) 4. aply protection spells to protect your party 5. let the character bash away with with both blunt weapons. 6. cast haste, stamina, superman etc on the guy training, and healing on the monster in no time at all his mace skills will bloom bigtime. also, certain monsters take only half damage from weapons... diamond golems, adamantine slimes, rock crabs etc... they are extra nice for weapons training! |
yah, i did that the first time i discovered the Boomerang Shuriken and had been using a Bow for my Hobbit Ninja. I put a couple hundred normal Shuriken in her other hands. of course, i had to find mobs that didn't want to charge me, and i had to walk up to them every once in a while to refresh their Guardian Angels. Until i discovered you can shoot from close up, too. In fact, i usually have everyone who can use Bows fight almost exclusively with them until they get over 40 in Bow and Ranged. This way, they're good at the thing they can always fight with first.
