I have a little problem with PP. The CDs are already patched to v1.2.4 and I have no idea how to train it. Is there a way to reset the algorithm that determines the success of PP?

The only thing that I can think of is getting a level up and then distribute your skill point on pickpocket skill.

then again it's not nice to picpocket if you have the patch.

There's an item in Trynton you'll find that will give you +15 to PP. But with that patch level, basically you can only PP a set # of times before it always fails. You can also set the difficulty level to Novice before PPing and then back to normal or expert, whichever you play on; at novice you should at least get in a few extra successful attempts.

But even if you PP successfully, the merchants will have noticed it the next time you return. It's pretty severe, they assume you'd be the only beings who go shopping...

No I think they only notice if you shoplift, not if you PP?

but imagine the following scene:
I've saved in front of an NPC and want to PP a specific item, let's say CoC. And I know the next try to PP it will fail. Is there a known way to get it w/o killing the NPC and getting hostile to his compagnions?

I'll try a few ideas next time when I get to an NPC an have an acceptable value in PP (which will be in a few days b/c I'm one of those players who delete their savegames and start with a new group every time they find a better way of developing their characters... :rolleyes: :( )

Only way would be to raise the PP skill, return with it raised (and/or lower the difficulty level of the game). That should let you PP more things than you could have before, but no guarantee you'll get the item you wanted. If it is the CoC, well just kill the Don, it's no big deal. But save before you do it as the cane doesn't always get dropped.

But then I get hostile to the Rattkin Razuka. Doesn't that have any disadvantages in the later game? I have only played to Marten's Bluff once and then I created parties over and over, played them only to Arnika. I hope I'm satisfied with my next one and finish the game... ;)

if you already got astral dominae from them, they are no more use to you.

When do they give it to me? When I first visited them, they said they'll steal and sell it to me. In the swamp I met the Dark Savant and he said the real astral dominae has been stolen. Can I go now straight back and get I from the Rattkins?
