Does anyone know? If you start with a base character, like a mage or alchemist, and then around level 3-5 when you have a few good spells you want to switch to a gadgeteer, bard, or ninja, would you get the same base equipment when you changed classes? Would your new gadgeteer have an omnigun, your new bard have a lute, or your new ninja have ninja garb? I am not talking about replacing the character, but rather changing my level 5 magic to a gadgeteer for instance so he can have some spells.
Also, do you know if such a character would still be able to learn from spell books for a mage. My level 5 mage/level 1 bard - could he learn from a mage spell book if he already has spells at that level? I am thinking about starting a new game, and was wondering about options. Thanks. |
Far as I can tell, if you switch TO Gadge, you get an omnigun. I switched Rodan after I recruited him, as he was pretty worthless as a Lord in terms of spell casting, and the gadge bonus to modern weapons seemed more valuable.
Course, if you switch them FROM gadge, you can't use any of the cool stuff. Oru |
yah, the gadgetgun is the only equipment that gets created in any class change. No free lutes or garb.

Gadgeteers get an omnigun as soon as you change them. He Li sells the poets Lute so you can change to a bard and not feel left out... Of course, why do you want to change classes in the first place?

Gen X, for me, at least, switching was a good idea for some characters: Switched a high level Samurai with excellent dual, sword and critical to a fighter. Lost the sword bonus, but was able to berserk with any sword, instead of just bloodlust. Also, switched a level 20 something Val to fighter, so she could berserk with Excalibur, and she had all the decent spells she was likely to get.
Next party, am gonna create a priest with the stats to switch to bishop. Priests level faster, and the healing etc. spells are very useful early on. Even if he misses some of the top level bishop spells, at least he'll get some good attack spells that seem in short supply for priests... Oru |
Granted, I'm no expert on the class changing thing, because I like to go from start to finish on one class, but I really don't think that you'd want to switch to a bard or gadge just because you wanted some spells. I'm playing my second game and I'm really really missing the gadgets. Gadges and bards get good spells with their own classes, and starting with a magic really only gets you maybe a heal or something. By the time that you get the lightning rod, your gadgeteer is a pretty potent offensive force, and once you get that omnigun tweaked up to make 10 or so, it's absolutely incredible with all the effects that you get from it. So I really don't recommend switching TO a gadgie...just start it as one. I know that a lot of people like doing the alchemist or bish to a ninja thing, and I don't know enough about a bard yet, having only played mine to trynton, but those are my thoughts on the gadgeteer, at least. But...play how you want to play. There are infinite ways that are all effective to play this game...that's why I love it so much.
