New monsters appear when leveling and some players reach very high levels only to discover new enemies. I wonder is there a level limit for the monsters or new will appear till level limit of the party ?

I certainly ran into a few new types my second time through. My replay had only the 4 characters, instead of the usual 6+2 format, so I figured the extra levelling at different stages of the game was behind the improved monsters.

You will notice that monsters match your lvl... u should have seen the puny green slimes evolve to languid slimes, metallic slimes, black slimes. This goes for spawned monsters, they will always be within a couple of lvls of your party...unless your lvl is really to low for an area, in that case you could face impossible fights.
The bosses are fixed lvl, not depending on your lvl. Most area's are capped, i.e. the maximum lvl for monsters is fixed. The only place without max is AP... there you can run into some of the meanest monsters. The max lvl for a monster is the same as for your party = 50. If you're 'lucky' you'll meet a lvl50 monster on AP. Have fun... Signed, One sick Psycho |
This is only an observation, but I think that when you are higher level than the level cap of the zone, only the lower level monsters will spawn. This could be to prevent having to fight multiple low level battles not worth the effort when you are travelling around.
For instance, while traveling on Arnika Road at level 21, the only monsters I came across were a group of 1 sige/5 bandits, all level 6. |
Each area has a upper and lower level limit of monster (call it MonsterMax and MonsterMin), however the game appears to pick monsters close to the PartyLevel which is calculated as the level of the highest level character in the party. So we end up with something like;
MonsterLvlGen = PartyLevel +/- random(X) IF MonsterLvlGen < MonsterMin THEN MonsterLvlGen = MonsterMin IF MonsterLvlGen > MonsterMax THEN MonsterLvlGen = MonsterMax Not sure if X is set or based on a percentage (something like 25% of PartyLevel). This is all just guesswork. [ 05-09-2002, 10:24 PM: Message edited by: Wolfie ] |
errrr....
where is AP? |
I don't think it is based on highest character level. I know by parallel experimentation (running 2 or 3 parties through one bit at a time to compare things like mana development of Bish vs. pure caster). I ran one group of 4 plus 2 who i killed at L1; a group of 5 plus 1 who i killed at L1; and a goup of six. When specific things happen, like merchant-inventory leveling, the dead are averaged in. This is very clear at Crock's. As far as the monsters go, that difference is really clear now that the average is 24 levels more for the 6 live char's than for the 4-with-2-dead. The 4 got 6 bandits and 4 crimson poppies on Arnika Road, where the 5 got a Sige, 6 bandits, 2 wasps in one fight and 3 acidvines with 4 bloodvines in another, while the group with 6 even had berserkers as soon as they got to A-T Road. All the living chars were L7 then.

Will the level of the joined NPC affect the level of the monsters ? I plan to recruit the robot at Vi's level 6 but the difference will be too
high. :eek: |
Welcome to the forum Aelias!
The level of the monsters will almost every time match the level of your highest level character in your party. The highest level monster i have meet is at level 40 in Ascension Peak that was realy nasty hehe! [ 05-11-2002, 04:38 AM: Message edited by: Megabot ] |
