I was really disappointed as I was making my way through this game that all of the gender-specific items were female, but now I've finally found one that was male only. I killed Chief Gari, just to see what he had, and each time I killed him I got the chieftain's sceptre, which is male only. So I'm somewhat pacified. But I got to thinking...I wish that since valks can only be female, it's too bad that lords aren't male-only. They are very similar classes with the emphasis on melee skills and priest magic. Oh well...just something to comment on.

Wizardry has always been sexist towards Females =) Tons of Female-Only items, and female bonuses, but little-to-nothing for the guys. In Wizardry 7 the only males you should make are fighter-type males, because of their boost to Strength, but for all other classes, the boost to Personality that females get is much more useful. And if you want a fighter female, no problem! Just roll up a Valkyrie.
And the girls don't have to deal with unpleasant things like Al-Sedexus.. *shudders* Ah well, I guess its compensating for how things were/are in RL. |
Well, players with all-female parties DO have to "deal with Al-Sedexus", y'know ;)
Also, there is a random item called "cameo locket" that shows up now and then, which is a male-only item (forgot what it does, though). Could never figure out why they did that "gender-only" stuff in Wizardry. Maybe they figure most players will have stag groups?
Nightowl2
|
also, to take full advantage of the class-changing system, females worked better, because after the first change, you revert to male stats for your race, but you keep the extra Karma point.

cameo locket is great
ac + 4, hp-regeneration +1 +15 Vitality and 30 % Divine resistance perfect for a fairy-bishop ..you'll get hp and a good AC |
I too am annoyed by the female-only items and bonuses. Of course, being a men's rights advocate, I of course would be annoyed by that. I think that some class like the Bishop or Lord or something should be male-only.

or have two sex defined magic casting classes...
mage for males, sorceress for females, with a number of unique spells & items for each. |
They where alway like this as I remember playing Wizardry 1 in 1979 or
1980. You don't see men wearing bras if they are normal man. |
Well, originally the Lord class was male-only, and the Valk was female-only to balance that out. Dunno why they changed it here so you could have a female Lord. Doesn't make sense to me.
My own feeling, though, is that the fewer gender-related classes, the better.
Nightowl2
|
