I have the stone idol and i am at the pedastal. When I try and place it I get a message about saving that item for later. Any ideas???

Try placing it again. You may not be close enough to actually place it properly. If you are at the right pedistal, eventually it will activate the next sequence.

The best way is to get fairly close to the pedestal. Then put the idol on your cursor, and click that on the pedestal. That should work.
