How the heck do you kill the Keeper of the Crypt in sea caves? My party is about level 12/13. None of my ranged attacks and spells/instruments seem to do any damage. Meanwhile, the Keeper woops on me. I tried moving close for my tanks to go to work, but the Keeper made short order of my party. Any tips?

I am assuming you mean Nessie?

Best thing to do - go to Crock in the swamp, buy Canned Elementals from him.

Engage with Nessie, unleash all the canned elementals you can (1 for each person) - they may not do damage to her (chances are you're gonna get stuck with some water elementals, it seems to be the luck of the draw - which does little to no damage to her) - BUT! - that's all right. They keep her distracted while your party runs up and dices her.

Nope -- this is a big battle with lots of undead, Vapra.

SeaDog -- what I did was save just out of the sight of the baddies and make sure all of my buffs were up beforehand. Then I used my lavalamp (or you could use the Hypnotic Lure spell) to draw the attention of some of them -- I got three of them to come over into view, which initiated combat. Since no one but those three could see me, the others all were casting buffs on themselves and not moving, which allowed me to take out the three nearby with ranged weapons, my bishops' Turn Undead damage and the Banish spell. Once those three were dead, I just didn't move and combat ended. I kept doing that until nothing else would come over, which left me with four or five opponents, including the Keeper. At that point, I made sure I had refreshed my SP/HP and then went around the corner and into view with the others. First round of combat I cast Soul Shield and had my two bishops Turn Undead while the other three focused on one creature with ranged weapons. A couple of them got paralyzed by the Turning so I could ignore them next round. I had my bard casting Heal All every round while one bishop alternated between Holy Water and Rest All and the other with Banish/Magic Missile. My others concentrated ranged weapons on one at a time. As long as I could keep everyone alive, I could ignore the Keeper until everyone else was dead and then I ran up to him and wiped him out in melee with spell support.

Just remember that your two most important spells to have up for defense are Magic Screen beforehand and Soul Shield as soon as combat starts.

Thanks for the info on taking out Nessie. I will deal with her later. Right now, I am in some caves trying to get passed this undead guy called Keeper of the Crypt. I used some rope and a hook to crawl up through a hole in the roof of the cave, and around the corner is the Keeper of the Crypt. He has a huge sword that he uses to shoot stuff at my party.

This is what I would recommend:

--Make sure all of your protective spells are in place (my standards are armorplate, Enchanted Blade and Magic Screen).
--Move in close - if you stay back, the Guardian will kill you with his magic (rather like the guys in the temple in the SE Wilderness).
--I used Boiling Blood with both my priest/bishop and mage/bishop - great spell, does 125-175 damage per spell per round.

I thought about using an Elemental, but didn't because the Boiling Blood dispatched him in a few rounds.

Unfortunately, there were lots of Undead and assorted beasties behind him and I had the bad luck to get them all at once along with the Guardian. Banish takes care of the Undead handily and I always drive the beasties insane first and pick them off at my leisure.

Jem's right - if you hang back and edge your way into the cavern they won't all come at you at once, and you only have to deal with them in twos or threes.

Your mileage may vary. :D

IMHO at level 12/13, your party is no match for him. Try and wonder around the swamp until you are about level 15 or above and try again.

If you really want to beat him anyway, ready to use plenty of holy water.

Bad Mr. Frosty 02-26-2002 05:39 PM

I beat him quite easily the second time around.
By luck too.
i used the rope right to get up and as soon as i turned around there was 9 crabs, 8 rebel ghost, 2 siege ghost, and the cryptkeeper.
i wasnt prepared, my buffs were on but not at max cuz im using my hybrids trying to build their lowly magic skills.
and also my guys were a little banged up from previous battles

Anyway he killed half my party i was getting desperate, i have only lost a party member 3 times so far(fairy bishop). But as i was about to revive them with powders, my computer froze.
At first i was pissed cuz i have a high end system running windows 2000, so im not supposed to have problmes like this.
But i had saved just prior entering through the hole in the ceiling.
as i came up again i turned and there was no one waiting for me.
this time i was rested and had all buffs, my guys all had there supply of superman and other such drinks.
I walked around rather timidly and looked at my radar and saw where the monsters were.
this time no crabs
only 4 ghosts and 1 siege
plus the cryptkeeper.
but i waited for the ghosts on my side of the wall
and i kept casting banish with my priest and my bishop
they soon died.
then i drank up my potions, cast eye for an eye, soulshield, and haste.
then i charged the bastard
unloaded with my sam with bloodlust adn enchanted wazakashi,my ninja with CoC and nunchaku(it paralyzed him)my fighter with sword of four winds, my priest with diamond eyes(Fighter in training)and my ranger with giants sword, Bishop landed some nice crushes and other attacks, he even joined in melee with his ebon staff.

he went down quick
very little damage to 2 of my guys, the rest unscathed.
ohh if u have a lizardman fighter and an amulet of health give it to him, they tend to go insane alot without it. lack of mental resistance.
He doesnt need the health but he is a dumbass i guess.
P.S.
Im not sure if its the amulet of health or of life one of the 2.gives u 50 mental resistance.
