Hi,
I'm running a party with Drac Fighter, Hobbit Rogue, Felp Ninja, Mook Ranger, and Two Elven Bishops (Dualed early from Psionic and Alchemist)... All characters seem to be developing well, i'm around level 10 now. All but the ninja, that is... I don't think she ever scored an Instant Kill!. My ranger pulls one very other fight i'm in, but my ninja just shoots for low damage. I understand criticals are dependent on senses, which i haven't been developing yet (working on dex and Speed), but she has around 80 in crtical strike, and 60+ in thrown. I shoulgd expect her to Instakill once in a while, right? I can also be just a matter of probability, there are not many throwing weapons around, so she frequently has to use a sling which i think doesn't grant her critical bonuses... but stil... Any insights? I'm playing the game unpatched (got that text problem, and anaware of the solution i reinstalled without patch. Thank you. Luis |
Hi!
If i understand it correctly, the Ninja gets criticals unarmed and with some thrown weapons, not all. Might be I'm wrong here but I think thrown criticals are limited to darts, daggers and shurikens. And yes Criticals are dependent on senses. Am playing a 3 char. party, with a Faery ninja, he scored a critical vs. Gregor in lower monastery, saved the day |
Ninja's can critical with any weapon because they have the critical strike skill... just like the Samurai. Thrown weapons get an auto-penetrate, giving a bonus to the critical roll (because you don't have to worry about armor). At least this is how I've come to understand it.

Ninja thrown criticals are only obtained with in-hand weapons, not slings. Shuriken, throwing knives and stilettos, various darts, etc., have the chance for a thrown critical.
My own experience with thrown criticals, though, is that they don't happen often enough to be worthwhile. I much prefer giving my Ninja a bow for the extra damage.
Nightowl2
|
Not that I am doubting this - but just want to know for myself - how does Sense skill go hand in hand with Criticals?
|
100 senses opens up the Eagle Eye skill which is effective for "ranged attacking skill".
Thrown criticals is more of a bonus skill for ninja's. The rate of crit's with ranged attacks from personal experience is less than those of melee crit's. It could be the same rate im not exactly sure, "but" , ranged attacks on most occasions are less than those of melee. (a ninja that can throw 2x can usually swing its weapons 3 times. So basically throwing daggers in both hands = 4attacks Vs. dual melee weapons = 6 attacks thus increasing thr chances of a crit. strike). Building a ninja purely around thrown crit ability isnt worth it. this goes doubly for a Fairie ninja since they get the Cane of Corpus. |
I was curious, because both my Ranger and Thief (and RFS81) all do Critical/Instant Kills.

Senses has a direct affect on the Critical Strike Skill. When you open Eagle eye with 100senses it also affects ranged skill attacks. To add to this Rangers will get more ranged crits than ninja's on msot occasions that ive seen when ive had both in group. Crit. Skill seems to be more effective in melee combat than ranged combat but thats because of the No. of Melee attacks Vs. Ranged attacks that i previously mentioned in my earlier post. |
My ninja starts to instakill since past level 20 when I reall start to put sens points. I don't have a ninja in my team for damage, I have it mainly for instakill, it's not a good invensment. Next time I'll take it different for the ninja.
Well at AP she does well. She instakilled the Rapax Prince and Al-Rix Saved me a round or two bashing with my samurai. |
