Yeah, considering the fact that M&M 9 has been in development for some time, and they were talking about how much of an upgrade it was supposed to be over M&M 6-8, I was expecting the first batch of screenshots to be showing off some complex geometry and expansive scenes.

However, the texture work on some of those objects in the screenshots is quite good (the stained glass window I find looks particularly sharp). Also, part of my problem is that I'm comparing the graphics in those screens to what I've seen of Morrowind, which looks very good (in part because you'll need a GeForce 4 to get the full graphics out of it).

In comparison to Wizardry 8, I think the graphics in M&M 9 will hold up quite well. I'm also hoping the gameplay is somewhat close to the quality of Wizardry, but I'm not naive enough to think that it's going to be nearly as slow-paced as Wiz 8 (which I like, it's a nice change from the Infinity Engine and Diablo games. I like battles where I can take my time and really plan carefully. It's just a different style that I'm finding I enjoy as well as the others).

I'm rambling because I'm low on sleep. I'm going to bed now. =)

That's actually not hard. Gamespots pics are real bad quality. But if you follow the screenshots from the begining (back in september last year) there is improvment in the dungeon quality. We can hope at the final release much better.

And don't over estimate wiz 8. It has a nice engine with it's as well far from being the state of the art in 3D Engines.

ROFL!!!! Well MM8 engine is that same as MM6 so no improvment in quality. No MM8 graphics sucks deep! They didn't do much work on this game. No wounder it was a comercial flop!!!

I just hope MM9 will set the counters in the right position.

If you se on page 2 on the gamespot screenshot pages on the bottom ther is it some WERY nice grapich in those 2 pic`s must be one of the best i ever seen yet! But as you knove the grapich is`nt all i a game so if the story and the size of the game is half as good as Wiz 8 then i will be happy about the game!

I was a big fan of the Might and Magic series. Truth be told MM 1 was my first computer RPG. I have played all of the series and was greatly disappointed with what 3D0 did to the games. Trip Hawkins had this "game a year" mentality. He did not care to make improvements, just wanted the merchandice on the shelves.

Now 3D0 is in financial ruins. 2 games have been finished for over 3 months, MM9 and Heroes 4. Hawkins made the decision to hold off on releasing them. In the meantime many people were laid off. It was recently announced that Heroes 4 will not have multi-player capability and it will take a patch to correct this.

MM9 is the first Might and Magic game I will not be rushing to buy. I will sit patiently and wait to see what others think about it. Of course I will have to wade through the blind loyalist who rave over anything, but I think it will be quite clear in a very short time if this will be a game worth buying.

Face it, 3D0 needs to produce something to pull itself out of the cellar. How long has it been since one of their games got rave reviews and made game of the year?

We know there will be 20 regions, (names are know as well). The number of dungeons is not known so it's a great mistery about the size and quantity. NWC released the fact they could be small like in MM8. As for the regions size compare to Wiz8 is a mistery yet.

I just hope the game make it to the shops. I will buy it any way because there arn't much RPG series out yet like wizardry or MM games. I also hope it will not finish like wiz 8 because the RPG on PC will have a hard time. Only hope will then be morrowinds if ever this game makes it to the selfs.

Wiz8 was the first game in 6 months that I paid full price for (the previous being Diablo2's expansion back in June of last year).

All of my other games come from ebay. If you do a search on the seller named JWIND, he auctions off great games for $2.50, which most people don't go for because they're not the newest thing out there.

I got Nox last week. Not the greatest game, but fun, and well worth it at that price. He also has some of the older M&M games on there too, but people usually bid them up to like $10.

I think the single player CRPG is on the way out. Unfortunetly they simply take longer to develope than other types of games (and time=money in software) and they don't sell as well as some other styles. So big companies prefer to do shooters and sims, and the small companies made up of RPGers just can't make enough to survive.

What I had been hoping to see happen was the developement of good MMORPGs to replace the CRPG, but for some reason it just hasn't happened. The business model of a MMORPG should be more viable for a small company since they only have to deal with publishers once then their revenue stream comes directly from the consumer, but good CRPG companies just haven't shown an interest in getting into the MMORPG business and have just let their businesses die instead. It's quite sad, I would have loved to have played Wiz, or Elder Scrolls online; either would have made an excellent MMORPG.
