I was wondering if it was me or something but I have tried to equip characters who can duel wield 2 swords and the game will not let them take the 2nd one. I also have a Lord who can use a mace and/or sword and cannot get him to put one of each in each hand. Is this normal? Is the 2nd hand only able to accept a dagger-type weapon?

Only certain weapons are usable in your second hand, a right-click on the item will tell you about it.
