Ok, I finished trynton the first go around, went to the swamp and did a bunch of that. Did the mines. Did upper and lower marten's bluff. Lost my party member. Rescued my party member. Went back to Trynton with the idol and I freaked out when I was asked for Marten's words. Someone on the list told me to check my journal and the words were there. BUT, before posting to this list, I was having a panic attack and went to the walk thru to see if it was in there. (it isn't doh), but I saw that in the walk thru that the Dark Savant was supposed to meet me when I entered the swamp. He never did. And I was supposed to get the fake AD, I didn't. So not knowing if things were just messed up or what, I used an editor to 'give' myself the fake AD. I've now done a good bit of Mt. Gigas and have an alliance with the mook (and have used the fake) but I still haven't seen the Dark Savant. Did I just hit a bug or what?

The location for the DS meeting you is random but normally takes place off the paths. I can't be sure what will happen down the road since you've editted in a fake but I doubt you'll meet him now and it really shouldn't affect the rest of the game as long as the editor doesn't cause any problems with the savegame. All you missed was him ranting and raving at you and throwing the fake down.

To find the Dark Savant in the swamp you need to get off the paths and find one of the many black patches on the ground (looks like a burnt spot like if you burnt a big patch of grass). These patches when stepped on will release a gas attack (like the coffin in the Lower Monastery) but the first time you get near to one of these the Dark Savant will show up & say some stuff then vanish & leave the fake A.D behind.

I didn't use the editor until AFTER the meeting didn't happen. I hope that that didn't effect anything else, but, like I said, I got kind of panicky when I realized an object I was 'supposed' to get didn't happen.

well, editing in an item doesn't change any quest flags ingame. dunno if the meeting is needed to show that you have reached point "x" in the game or not.

anyone else out there know?

i know that having an editted item doesn't usually stop you from getting the real item, so maybe you should consider walking around the swamp, just in case?

Meet the Savant in the swamp is also the signal that Barlone has the Astral Dominae for sale. So you may want to trek around and see if he shows up. Off trail is usually best.

It might be the signal but it's not like it's even necessary. You can kill the Don at your first meeting and still get the AD. I think he's lying to you when he says he doesn't have it yet. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Oddly enough I found the Idiot Savant on the paths directly east of where you enter the swamp. For my first trek through the swamps, I didn't stray from the road at all (not until after the mines).
