Hi Y'all. I'm heading overseas on Sunday and want to take Wiz 8 with me (I can tell now how I will spend part of my vacation!). Instead of just importing the whole damn 'Saves' folder, can I just use the most recent game (*.SAV file) and the Character folder? I guess I need the NPC folder too, since I have one. What about the 'levels' folder? It's a monster (at about 470mb) and I'm not sure if I need that one. Am I missing anything else? I want to do this right.

Thanks in advance for any help here!

You only need to transfer the "save" file over. Npc - monster files will already be on the laptop if you have installed Wiz8 onto it.

"note also" if you have patched the pc game you need to have the "same or better" patch on it otherwise your saved game wont work.

now, i am known as the "chaos queen", because if it can happen, it will happen to me. i have a lapper and have moved the game back and forth and this is all based on what i do.

when you install, do a minimum install. BUT you haveta bring all 3 cds with you when you do that!

based on having the smallest file size ( to save space ) when you install the game, don't install "levels" or "cinematics"... that means the game will pull them off the cds when you play, but your file size for the game overall, will be a LOT smaller. upon installation, you have the options of unchecking them during the setup. mage 77 is absolutely right about the patch. it HAS to be exactly the same or you will be starting all over ~ from scratch.

now for your folders, you need the following:

main folder named: Saves
from this folder, bring over the following files:
~ currentgame.sav
~ autosave.sav
~ one or two of your most current saved games, whatever you have named them. i would take more just for safety sake, but that's me. :D
~ when you install the game, it will create "sample party.sav", so that will be there. keep it.

sub folder named: Characters

move the entire folder over.
you could just pull out your characters in your current game and not the others, but if something happens, it will save you reinstalling simply for those.

you said you had an npc, so definitely bring that sub folder over, too.
(i have never brought it over. mine is always empty. i guess its not for the rpcs, because i always have 2 of them.)

that should take care of it. if you have any other questions, just ask. we're happy to help! anything to make your trip more wizardry-capable! LOL. :D

All I do when transferring between my laptop and computer is copy the 'saves' folder over.

I installed on my computer, and created my party.
Then installed on my laptop and copied the saves files over.
From then on, when I take the train to work, I play wiz8.
Take the train home, play wiz8.
Get home, copy the saves folder back to the computer and play wiz8.

Hasn't been a problem for me yet. It does make my life sound kind of empty though.

So when you just transfer the 'saves' folder it also has all your current character data as well as the NPC data (the ones you added to your party?)

I guess I'll just try it tonight and see what happens.
