My party went from the south-east wilderness to the swamp, no problem. But when the swamp area was loaded and I tried to move, I couldn't. I could move the cursor around and click on the cast spell/combat/options/etc buttons, but I couldn't walk anywhere or look around. I loaded up my previous save where I'd walked from the wilderness to the swamp but now I can't move there either. I quit and restarted the computer but still the same problem in any save game I load.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

First thought is "do your characters still respond to the keyboard arrows?". Interesting to know if they are dead in the water, or only not responding to the mouse. If the keyboard is working then I would check your options screen to see what mouse options are selected or deselected in your options screens. Fainling any breakthrough there, you could look to see if your mouse and drivers are all ok.

It's a strange one - anone else out there have any suggestions for Aelia?

other things that have been suggested for when someone is stuck have been:

1) camp for a while (have no idea how long)
2) go in and out of combat mode
3) double check to make sure you're not overburdened or had all your strength sucked out of you.
4) load an earlier game and try again.

however, to me, it sounds like the bug that happens when a level doesn't successfully load. it appears to be there, but you can't go into it or move around.
in that case, you must do a complete uninstall and reinstall, but this time install the full levels file. i think it usually happens to peeps who haven't installed the levels or cinematics when asked.

Posted your problem to another board - not many responses as yet, but so far I have :

This may sound cynical, but, have you tried the <esc> key? That has happened to me a few times, but when I press <esc> the game returns to normal...

Just a suggestion...keep us posted, will you? I'd like to hear the answer....

AND

I have two suggestions. First, make sure that the patch is installed correctly. Sometimes all the files don't get overwritten correctly. If that doesn't work, try to reinstall. Perhaps there is a corrupt file somewhere. If that doesn't help, then drop a note to bugs@sir-tech.com and describe the problem to them. They will need complete system info, including sound and video driver version information It helps them answer your question more efficiently

I checked through the Sirtech tech help forum but drew a blank as well. Sorry the news isn't any better, but the search goes on. Keep smiling :D .

Thanks Davros and Vesselle . But my brother found the problem - the right mouse button just suddenly stopped working . I hardly ever need to use it except for Wizardry 8 so I didn't realise that it wasn't working anywhere else either. So in between walking to the swamp and the swamp loading, it gave up the ghost. We're buying a new mouse today :D

Thanks for all your suggestions, I'm glad the answer was as simple as it is

Glad to see the cure was so simple. And to consider all the Sirtech forumposts I opened regarding jerky mouses - there were 26 pages of posts in one of them, and nothing with symptoms like yours :D .

Now hurry up - your lagging behind if you're still in the swamp my dear - you are fast appraoching the new semester .
