OK, so I've played Wizardry 8 and loved it.. Where can I go from here? I bought BG2, Shadows of Amn or whatever and I can't stand it.. I played for about 4 hours and got tired of it and started another Wizardry 8 campaign. Does anyone have a good recommendation on games that are similar to Wizardry 8 and as enjoyable? Are there any?

I absolutely *loved* Arcanum, even though it's very different from any CRPG I've ever played. The extreme flexibility of character creation and lack of well-defined character classes is a little hard to get used to (you basically define a character by race, chosen skills and whether they lean toward tech or magick).

It was huge fun to play, though.

Edited to add: I bought Arcanum not really sure whether I'd like it or not, right after I set fire to my copy of Pool of Radiance.

The elder scrolls III Morrowind
It promises to be as good and in a lot of ways better than even WIZ 8
Please dont condemn me for heresy becaue i love Wizardry
but its obvious that sirtech left out tons of gameplay because of money restraints.
Morrowind is blessed by having all the needed resources to become the best RPG to date.

yeah.... they said the same thing about daggerfall... throwing money at a game isn't going to make it good. Having dedicated developers like Sirtech makes a good game.

I can definitely recommend Arcanum just make sure you get the latest patch. It is real time until combat then you have the option of playing it as real time or turn based. Like fallout you only have direct control over your main character. Character development is not quite as intricate as Wizardy but it is still quite enjoyable.

As for Pool of Radiance, I purchased the Collector's Edition but never installed it because I wanted to finish Wizardy first. After reading everything about the game and talking to a friend who installed it, I have decided to add it to my collection of garbage games.

I agree with you MaskedFrog do not install Pool of Radiance that nasty game i have played it trough 80 % and it is not good at all boring and LOT`S of bugg`s i think The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is mutch better i like the Daggerfall game preety mutch an i think this game would be an "Must have game" and i can also recomeand Thief series and Deus EX game.
I also have played Heroes of Migth and magic series, Might and Magic series so M&M 9 and Heroes 4 is a good games i think when they come!

I hate to dig up old games, but Diablo 2 is still the best game out there because it's so replayable... though I stuck with Single Player... battle.net has gotten really crappy.

They're selling the whole package at stores for $40 US. Diablo1, and Hellfire expansion, Diablo2 and Lord of Destruction Expansion. If you've never played it, it's a must. I've never been one for First Person Shooters, so Diablo was a great game... and it came out during the whole FPS craze of Wolfenstein, Doom, etc.

Starcraft is way cheap and a great game... just remember "Power Overwhelming" )

And for everyone else out there that wondered what ever happened to older games and don't know where you can get them... most of em, you can download for free at

It had 2 of my old favorites, WAsteland and Mines of Titan. You can see a lot of where RPG's came from. Though be careful, a lot of them are DOS only. (And they don't work great on Windows NT's Dos emulation)

Yes, I played Diablo II for a bout 2 weeks and got bored of it.. I got to Hell (Act III I think) and it just got boring, although playing a Necromancer was pretty cool.

If you liked Wizardry 8, none of the games named above will give you the same visual feel. You may want to check out Might and Magic VI or VII. I'm not fond of the AI at all, but the skill-building system and spell system are very good, and the game runs in first-person 3D with a party of six. (IMO, M&M VIII is nothing but a monty haul: it gives so much away that I had more money by 25% of the way through the game than I ever would end up spending in the rest. Sad, the series has really fallen off since 3DO bought NWC.)
