So I've grabbed the stuff in Marten's Bluff Castle that I need to T'Rang Arm, Wires, and the Idol (lost one character...) But now I cant make the elevator work in the smasher thing. I dropped the dummy-does this interfere with the elevator? I got it to work once, then restarted, now I cant get it to work. Is this the way out after getting the idol /etc?

Dropping the dummy interferes with nothing. It's used for one of the tasks given to you by the T'Rang leader.

so how do you work that platform/elevator thing there? If I cruise back around, I dont think I can go up the trap door by the sword/pot with hinge...

Go in and mess with the buttons on the consoles on either side of the smashing room. That's what I did and it seemed to reset the elevator. I do know that the inner door (to the courtyard) had to close and allow me to reopen it from just outside it before the elevator reset itself.

Sometimes it's just the way you get onto the platform. I've stepped on it and had nothing happen until I moved carefully around. Then it started up. Never had to mess with any switches or controls in the nearby rooms.
