I have some friends that have lit the gravestones and placed the dagger in the post. They are telling me there is no mushroom patch to be found. Any clues? I don't know if they have installed the game patch.

Where are you looking - the mushroom patch appears outside the cemetery walls. You have to walk out, and all the way round the back to find it.

I think they're in the right area for I told them to look for the chest on the outside of the back wall and they confirmed that.

You have to be completely outside the cemetery and around back. That means walking out the original entrance gate, and then behind the graveyard. If the dagger stuck in the corner, the mushroom ring should be there. It does take some walking to reach it.

I will advise them to be sure of the location. I just wanted to be sure no-one else had this problem. They must be looking in the wrong area. Thanks to all for the response.
