I have to face a few cliff sprites and an oak guardian. All of my hits bounce of of that dude. How do I connect with the attacks and spells?

Use "Element and Soul" skild and eye for an eye spell then move up to the spirits then slash them and the Oak guardian to death!

Blind them using Flash Bangs. Once blinded, they wont engage you and simply run around. Then, you can pick them up one at a time with your archers and mages.

Make sure you have Bless and Enchant Blade up. If the Oak Guardian managed to get Body of Stone off, you may need to cast armormelt to counteract it.

The faeries die quite easily by hacking and slashing.

When you hit them...listen carefully....
I think they sound like cats in heat moaning...no joke....
or maybe i have finally became demented....
