Just started the game but when I try to import my lead character from BG, he isn't listed. There are only the 4 pre-done PCs. Did I miss something before I finished BG? I swear I exported them. Do I need to open another file or something? Help!

It would be nice if BG2 check out the DG1 folders, but it dosent so you have to manualy copy them over. it says somewher in the manual or a readme exactly where you have to copy it to, but if youve un-installed BG1 the file you need will be in one of the few folders left, and should be copied into the same-named folder in BG2. of course, if youve deleted BG1 then your gonna have to create a new char or re-do BG1. you dont lose a great deal though since all your stuff gets stolen anyway.

Thanks for the assist! Do you know which file I have to copy them to?

Did i already say i didnt? yes i did.

i suppose i can find out though.

ok, the character files are in {main game directory}\characters. just shove you export in their. also you shoul be able to import directly from a save game, but i dunno where youd copy that. it is in a readme somewhere.

AND...you can go to Baldurdash to download a patch that will allow you to KEEP all of your items from BGI.

HEY! You earned them fair and square...why should you lose them?

You have to copy the appropriate folder of the savegame from BG1 (each save game has its own folder) to the savegame-folder of BG2. If you install BG2 freshly, there is no such folder and you have to create one.
