I'm attempting to play both sides of the fence here, and I believe, from the walkthrough I somehow sneaked a look at ;) (thx Xignal!) that I'm going about it correctly.

I have:

- Completed all Umpani quests other than sabotaging the T'Rang ship
- Completed all T'Rang quests EXCEPT I have not talked to the "spy"
- I'm currently in the Rapax castle, as I understand that I need to be a templar before I can bring about the alliance
- I've spoken to Al-Sedexus, and she asked to "find the templars" so that's where I've gone
- I have all three artifacts
- I've spoken with Bela who asked me to spare the Dark Savant (or some such, I can't remember right now)

Couple questions:

1. I have not visited the "away camp" - is this something that comes after visiting the castle?
2. Should I finish the (fourth?) T'Rang quest prior to advancing further into the Rapax castle?
3. Should I free the trapped Rapax (can't remember his name). I couldn't figure out the stupid flame lock till I found some help here...
4. Should all the Rapax be hostile? My party is roughly level 20, and I'm having no difficulty killing 20-30 Rapax per encounter, but I want to make sure I wasnt' supposed to do something that would make them neutral. Of course, my faction rating with the Rapax templar has not moved so I guess I'm OK.

My biggest worry is that I'm not going to be able to finish the game due to some unorthodox action I've taken - I've seen hints that there are some paths that seem to dead-end.

Please, no explicit spoilers, just some hints if I'm on the right track (I've been trying - mostly successfully! - to keep my nose out of Xignal's excellent walk-thru's)

Many thanks!

You can visit it when you want. It is a non-linear game, mostly

2. Should I finish the (fourth?) T'Rang quest prior to advancing further into the Rapax castle?
Once again, as you wish. Just remember: Avoid doing stuff that will definetly pi$$ off the Umpani

3. Should I free the trapped Rapax (can't remember his name).
Sure. Why not ?

As long as you manage to keep Ferro alive you're fine

You haven't done anything unorthodox

How do you know it is excellent if you've managed to keep your nose out of it. On a serious note: the walkthrough does not say anything about how to play on both sides of the fence, last time I checked

Edited: Disregard my last comment, I've misread your post and AFAIK Bela does not say anything about sparing the DS,...

OK small hint.

Head the advise off Al-Sadexus (or what's her name is).
Speak to the green dots.

1. Away camp best visited after becoming a Templar.

2. Do the fourth T'rang quest whenever you like, or even not do it.

3. Rafe is an optional side quest; freeing or not freeing has no effect on the main line.

4. The Rapax Common (samurai, veterans, etc) are always hostile when you arrive in the Rift. Becoming a Templar turns them friendly. Unless you enjoy all those fights, Templar Initiation should be high on your "to-do" list.
