In my last party, I did not steal items and ended up with cheap items.
Now I decided to pickpocket and steal items...

I heard people saying I should practice Pickpocket with Anna in Arnika.. they say i should charm her if got caught....

I tried it, dont work.

Whats the better way?

The better way is: save the game. Try to grab something. If successful, save the game. If caught, restore. Anna is very hard to bring back to friendly.

Is there a difference between pickpocketing and shoplifting?

Nightowl2 02-04-2002 09:46 PM

They both use the same skill. So in that sense, there's no difference. However, I don't know if there is a factor involved that makes one form of theft easier than another. It's seemed about the same to me.

I can't confirm it, but read somewhere that the NPC's remember shoplifting, i.e. they get angry at you at some point. PP seems not to be affecting your relation to them, if you succeed, that is :)

One of the later patches - I don't know which one - changed thievery so that shopkeepers will notice stuff is gone and connect you with the theft. This is one reason I installed only the Ascension Peak patch ;)

Hi Nightowl2!

Yep, I heard that too, but I am actually not convinced that it is true, or how strong it affects your relation. I pickpocketed the Umpani Sergeant which lets you in several times, I think 50 or so, everytime successfull. He's still talking to me like in the beginning... haven't tried the other ones, though, reloading is soooo slow on my Laptop.

You can pickpocket successfully without upsetting the NPCs unless you happen to get caught in the attempt in which case you can either back out, reload and try again up until the time before you got caught or try and bribe your way out of them being mad at you.

It's shoplifting that can mess you up. You might get away with it at the time but the next time you come back and see the merchant they are less friendly to you and you have to bribe your way back into their good graces. So technically, the so-called 'nerfing' of PPing that the 12/23 patch caused is only against shoplifting, not PPing per say.

And it is still possible to get your PPing skill up there even with the limitations on shoplifting because my bard ended the game with a natural 75 in it plus the two Filcher's Bands I would equip him with whenever we talked to an NPC raised his level to 105 (+15 each).

Thanks, Jem! That's what I thought, or at least, what seems to make most sense for me... ok, after it, everybody has known the outcome before:) Thanks anyway
