there we were, surrounded by thousand enemies. the warriors swings their axes and swords, then a new group of bad guys approach. The mages start concentrating, they conect with the mystical energy arround, they focus on the target, every thing depends on them, the fireball and web spell are ready and then...
the spell backfires and half of my party is dead toast and the other half is webbed. is just me, or my mage and priest are working for the enemy???? how they can fail so often? is the low level??? my mage is level 8 and wisardry 55 please some tell me i did not make a mistake includinf those guys. |
What level are you casting at dude - the green circles tell you what level is sure and what level is likely to fail. If you keep selecting in the red you will keep failing - plain and simple.

Any spell level other than pure green is a risk; the less green the circle, the more chance of fizzle or backfire. Casting in the red is pretty much a sure thing of a spell going bad and hitting your own party.

Your Wizadry skill has nothing to do with the backfire. It tells you what level spell you can learn. It's your (for instance) fire skill that tells you the power with which you can cast. The higher your skill the more green circles. Green is safe, yellow might fizzle but prob won't backfire. Orange or above, take your chance. The bottom line is, if you are in major combat, cast green only.

Is this in the manual? I dont think this info is in the manual. At first, I thought that Green means low power and Big BIg ReD circles mean Super Nuke'M Get power. Obviously, I would always select the highest level regardless it was red or red! |
jsteng wonders:

Well it's page 79 and 80 in my manual - but I have the Australian and New Zealand version. Be careful about mentioning livestock in the same thread :D - those kiwis get a bit tetchy about that sort if thing.
