Ok, I'm stumped...
What does the small well in the ruins of N Wilderness for?

I've tried every object in my inventory the last three times I've past it and nothing seems to have an effect.

Ok, I still don't get what the well is for. I touched all the runes, put the short staff in the rock and (I believe) finished the dungeon, but I still don't get what the well is for.

Can anyone spoil me?
