I imagine they're just to keep you on your toes.. I've gotten a beanie or two that is the same thing.. -1ac and cursed. Haven't found a use for em yet, though I suppose there may be some kind of side quest involving them..

Unfortunately it is a joke of the cosmic lords. Time to use Remove Curse. As a friendly piece of advice, do not equip anyting unless you have indentified it or have someone capable of removing cursed items.
