Hiya,

I have the safe key that I got from the secret compartment in the room with the statue. The problem is that when I use my hand on the safe I get a message saying that a specific item is required here. So I go into inventory and try to equip the key somehow, but none of my characters can use it. The safe key is red when in their personal inventory. Any idea why I wouldn't be able to open the safe with the key or if I am just doing something wrong?

The key does not need to be equipped. You must use the key on the keyhole. This done via the icons on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes you might have to try a couple of times to get the exact position right for the key.

I had the same problem, Brak, when I started. I had been playing a game where just clicking on a door with the character who had the key was sufficient.

Here, go to your inventory and pick up the key with your mouse. Then return to the gamescreen, find the keyhole, and click on the keyhole with the key.

Thanks a lot, both of ya...now I know why the iron key didn't work in the upper monestary too. I thought it just wasn't for that door, but a *safe* and a *safe* key...that one was too obvious, so I figured I had to have been doing something wrong. Woohoo!

Yeh, its not always easy for us new-to-wiz people to get the hang of how they do things in this game :/

you are definitely not alone!

and its a very good point. i'm still learning. when i first picked up W8 and began playing, i was unfamiliar with so many things about it. esp interacting with the world.

i think i had played it for nearly a month before i realized just how much "merging" and "using" were done in this game. i HAD no idea what the merge button was for. even after the bridge thingie, i thot it was for that one thing and nothing else. only now am i beginning to see just HOW much "merge" is used.

the thing is, there aren't any clues. i can sit down and spend hours going thru everything my party owns trying to merge stuff, and then have to redo it all because what one person can't do, another can. (like alchemist/ranger vs gadgeteer!)

my notes are soooo long on that stuff. at least i realized that if it's possible but i don't have enough exp it will say "V***V cannot merge that at this time" as opposed to a blanket "these items cannot be merged".

it boggles me!

V***V

PS: that's the reason it becomes so much fun to try different parties. :D it seems no matter how much i learn, when i return with that knowledge in a new party, i encounter tons more new stuff.

Nod Vesselle...having experience in heaps of other RPG's seems to count for zip as far as Wizardy is concerned. (Well maybe not zip...you know what I mean

Not that i'm putting the game down - I love Wizardry 8. I just assumed the design would be simular to other games I've played in this genere.
