Am I the only one who hates the technological stuff in Wiz 8 ?

Don't get me wrong I love the game, have just finished it and am restarting with a new party. But I will have loved it even more if there were no spaceship, no computers, no rocket launchers and so on.

The only games IMHO who did a good job in integrating Technology and Magic are Arcanum and Vampire.

I really hated the god damned blasters in MM6, 7 and 8: You spent 95% of your levels developping, bow, sword, shield skills, creating and finding super armors and weapon, and by the end of the game, you could throw all that out the window and focus on blasters and the skill to use them.

I am glad Wiz 8 did not go that far, but still...

The only thing I like is the gadgeteer related things, not much else.

I agree with you. I didn't particularly like the modern weapons, technology, etc. I did use the muskets for a short while and then just relied on my medieval weaponry.

In 7, you are still rewarded for focusing on medievial even after the new tech comes out. You are working sword sword sword then comes muskets muskets and then blaster and then *LIGHT SABER* (sword!).

Yeah, I'm another that doesn't go a ton on all the tech bits and bobs. Being the arch traditionalist I am I only like the fantasy stuff. I even steer away from the gadgeteer and any tech related equipment for my party. Could cause me grief somewhere down the line, but as my party gets shredded by robots wielding lasers as I wave my clubs at them, I'll be able to sit back happy in my old fashionedness. Not that it'll do me any good.

PS Oops forgot to add - still think it's a fantastic game though.

I think it is WERY cool with the spaceship and so on in the game it give it a special feeling to play it, a mix of old magic and new tecknology!
Remeber Dark Savant, Your party, Mook, Umpany and T`rang are coming to Dominus with space ships so it is naturaly that it is a little "high tech" in the game! Btw i dont use bluderbuss or rockhed luncher in the game i only use magic and swords!

Also in M&M series there to was "Corak" or what his name was he also come to the world with space ship! :D

Most fantasy ideas come from our ancient history and sagas, the most hebrew and nordic, and most of them involve things like UFOs, Aliens and so on.
Some books in the bible are only about the relationship between us and the people from the stars, book of Henoch for example.
The guys our ancestors called gods where nothing more the spacetravlers raising a new colony here.
Why would a real god need a vehicle that when launches hurls fire to the ground ? (again, see book Henoch or even Job)
Sounds like a spacecraft to me.

I find it cool some gamedesigners actually involved this.

In each RPG you have to oppose the hordes of Hell, Demons and other religious stuff. The ultimate good versus the ultimate evil thingie.
Wizardry is a nice exeption to this.

The way tech was implemented in M&M 6-8 was bad, but frankly M&M 6-8 were just bad games. If you go back to the earlier M&Ms it was implemeted much better, with hints of technology in the background story, but your characters never got a hold of things like blasters.

I think Wiz did a similarly good job with tech. The first time it appears is at the end of 6 when you meet Bela and learn of the cosmic lords and get offered a ride in his spaceship. Then you get a little more in 7 as you learn of the ancient civilization and get a chance to choose between one of the four "artifacts.", and of course my favorite, when you see the flying "Whale." Then by 8, your more familiar with tech and accustomed to their use. If you've played all three of the trilogy, I don't think you'd find the use of tech out of place in Wiz. They really did a good job implementing it.
