In order to try to develop a Ranger's magic side I want to find somewhere to steal points from in order to pump some into Alchemy. I like his Scouting ability early on for finding potions but wonder whether this can be the source of my Alchemy points.

Is there any info available that shows any levelling off of item finds after a certain skill level?

I stopped with scouting points at like 45.
He seems to see everything just fine. In case I think something might be hidden, I do detect secrets and see if I come across anything extra.

I think that the only thing a high scouting skill does is extending the range of the search, not the level of the found items.
