Hi guys could you give me any views on which stats to increase as you go up the levels thanx.........

It depends on a lot of different things, the three big ones are: class, skills, and advancec skills.

So if you are building a bishop as a primary magic user str and vit, would be a bad idea.
As a general rule, decide on 3-4 skills that you want to advance for each character, look at the controlling attributes of those skills and advance the 2-3 stats that are most common among those skills.

Deciding on whether to advance 2 or 3 skills in the begging is more of a style question: Advancing 2 skills will get you the advanced skills as fast as possible letting you advance them sooner and ultimetly higher. Advancing 3 will allow you to eventually get 3 advanced skills, but you will get them so late that they won't advance too far before the end of the game. When I get the time to take a second party through the game, I think I'm going to distrubute the points 3, 1.5, 1.5...This will get one advanced skill quickly and still allow me eventualy to gain 2 more.

::giggles::
since Halloween 2001 when the demo was released, every post in this forum, in one way or another, reflects answers to that question.

BASIC:
each class on start up has 3 stats that are its "best" stats... based on them as 1,2,3 put points like this:
STAT 1, 3 pts
STAT 2, 2 pts
STAT 3, 1 pt

HOWEVER, there has been much more extensive analysis since Halloween, and you want details?
you will have to do a ton of reading.

read the sticky threads above this post entitles "Best Tips" for regular type player ideas on what to do. good idea anyway, as it offers lotsa stuff that you may wish you had known from the game start.

there are kajillions of sites with race/class analyses on them and most have walkthrus, so you will prolly spoil yourself mega by going there.

anyways, the second sticky thread has people advertising their sites for that, again with spoilers stuck all thru it.

second, try doing a search on this site, because there are some damn fine analyses written by some damn fine analysts. ( i just like saying "damn fine" LOL! )

but i am sure, that every eager beaver will jump in to discuss this at some point. :D

I thought this subject would generate a bit of discussion but ive never played any Wiz games before so i thought it would be better if i asked.

So, tell us what your party is...race and class. Gotta know that before we can weigh in with the advice. ;)

Aye, everyone has their different methods... but post race/class combo and you will probably get a lot of info and methods.

From the replies i have read i think (because i am still awaiting the arrival of Wiz 8) i will be starting with the following party:

Fighter
Samurai
Ranger
Bishop
Valkyrie
Lord

But not sure on race yet.

Still need a little more information such as whether you will focus on melee or ranged combat, if you're focused on melle my suggestions:

Fighter 3-Str, 1.5-Dex, 1.5-Spd
Samurai 3-Dex, 1.5-Sen, 1.5-Spd
Ranger 3-Sen, 1.5-Dex, 1.5-Spd
Bishop 3-Int, 3-Pie
Valkyrie 3-Str, 1.5-Dex, 1.5-Spd
Lord 3-Str, 1.5-Dex, 1.5-Spd

This is a very melee point distribution, but I'm guessing by the classes you picked that this is what you are trying to develope.

I disagree on the fighter. If you choose a lizard and pump max vit and str, that you pupmp 3 str and 3 vit through lvl 6 then you have iron skin at lvl 6. Then you use the 1.5 dex 1.5 speed 3 str untial strength is maxed out (somewhere around lvl 10-11?) So by lvl 11 you have both power strike and iorn skin and 6 points per lvl to put into whatever else you want, say 3 dex and 3 speed.

Goumindong 01-13-2002 10:42 PM

have you ever thought about the rangers crit ability...

i was thinking of starting over with a smart casting ranger.

pump int+sen and spd/dex next

the reason?

the rangers crits are based on ranged combat, which is controlled by sen and int.
