I dont know what kind of character to make. I have been playing for months but i can never beat the first level. Maybe it is because I am not using a good class or I am not choosing good stats or proficiencies. I dont know what I am doing wrong. Please help!
Thanks in advance for all of your help. |

OK, For the class, i think maybe a paladin, a mage or a fighter mage. Others will say that u should start off with a Fighter if ur a newby, but i disagree- u dont get any useful abilities, ur game will just be hack n slash.
As for porficences- put as many points into the longsword as u can, u will find many useful long swords throughout ur adventures. With stats- get them as high as possible, excpt charisma, early in the game you will find an item which improves charisma greatly. Ignore the Charisma Bit if ur a paladin because they have a realy high mimimum for this. Also- NEVER have anything (execpt charisma) under about 12- u will be killed to easily.

And Welcome To the forum! <marquee direction= "down" , behavior= alternate> </marquee>
|
I have tried all sorts of magic users but the spells just dont seem to be able to kill any monsters. Then if i fight in melee combat i might get one or two hits before my health gets too low and i have to run away. Maybe my battle strategies are not right??? btw i am soloing cuz i heard it was a lot of fun
Thanks so much! |
first
look at your personality, see yourself in their shoes, which one is the most comfy and cool looking for you? im serious, of course after all, it is a roleplaying game ;) |
generally soloing is for people who have gone through the game with plenty of different parties and dont have any new way of replaying
try playing with a party, you need buddies to help you out sometimes |
Woah... dude... ...
Most of the soloists you see in this forum have played with parties beforehand. I personally have played with a party about a dozen times. I have played a happy-go-lucky party, a good party, an evil party, an all-female party, role-played Robin Hood and his merry men( and woman), etc... ... Soloing is usually done by those who already know the game inside out, those who need more of a challenge or are just bored with having parties already. I recommend that you try a party first, before trying soloing. Having a party is fun too, especially the first time round, because of all the NPC interactions. |
First time through I would not solo because you will loose a lot of the depth built in to the game. The key to survival is to rest often and hit that q key all the time. A fighter or mage is probably the easiest characters to play just make sure you roll until you get good stats.

I tend to agree with the other guys... I haven't soloed through BG2 yet, and I didn't solo through BG1 until I'd played through it about seven or eight times...
personally, I would go for a mage as your character, but that's just me |
What you tried soloing at the start? MAD. Ive played bg1 for an ages and i cant even solo through that. As for starting bg2 soloing with a mage.. *Winces*
