I have not been to the southern wilderness and since I am at the end of the game, was wondering if it would be worth my time and trouble to trudge back there and complete this section. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I assume you are talking about the SouthEast Wilderness. I would definitley go back for some great scenery and also what is perhaps the most exciting battle in the game. I won't spoil it for you, I'll let you find out.
