1. Are there any bonuses attributed to fighting with one one-handed weapon (the second hand is free) instead of fighting with 2 one-handed weapons (dual wielding) or with 1 one-handed weapon and a shield?

2. Are there any bonuses AGAINST you if you are using a long ranged weapon in closed combat? i.e. always using a bow even if the monster is right next to you.

1. Yes. Equip a one-handed weapon, look at your attack rating. Then equip dual weapons and look again. A single weapon, all else being equal, will always have a greater chance to hit than duals.

2. No, in this game there is no penalty for using a bow in close combat. Your ranger should never even TOUCH a sword.

Thanks for the help!
I guess I was wasting my time having my Ranger change from Bow to Sword then.

Hey, it's an easy mistake. In most rpg's there IS a penalty for using a bow in close combat, sometimes a bad one.
