If I start a new party, I would have to really look at the weapons allocations. I have three sling users and I can't keep them in decent ammunition. There are plenty of basic stones available but it's hardly worth the effort for the small amount of damage they do against higher level monsters. Even the spike stones are hard to come by. I might find 100 of them for sale by one of the shops but I can blow through that in just a couple of battles.
Next time I'll stick with bows and crossbows. |
I am having the same problem with arrows. My ranger uses a lot of arrows and all I can usually find are the regular arrows. My bard also uses arrows, so I'm going through a ton of arrows.

The Rapaz Castle Smith and the Umpani Comissary are fairly good suppliers of ammunition. Croc and Fuzzbait(sic) are fair. Anna has some once in a while.
In any event, just take what they have for sale, camp thrice, and buy again. I find that three 8-hour sretches seem sufficient for restocks, sometimes less. I have four casters capable of setting Portals, so I pop around and restock as needed. |
aww darn it! too bad you weren't in Crock's shop a minute ago. i was giving him arrows, cuz i was overloaded really bad. i would gladly have let you have them. :D (interesting side note: you have to give them ONE ARROW at a TIME! LOLOL! that is so time consuming!)
anyways....... sorry, i haven't had any problems, so far, except for stoopid Myles stealing ALL my arrows when he "waited" for me elsewhere. we have doubleshot slings and my ranger does double shots each time. i have 2 slingers and 1 parttime archer, in addition to my ranger. if i get low on ammo, i let it all go to one person and then re-arrange formation or opt for long range spells. just out of curiousity, do you scroll past all the ammo and go to the end of the list? sometimes there are as many as 3 sections of ammo on a dealer. also, for those who are thieves, the dealers always have arrow stashes on them to pickpocket. and it seems that the dealer replenishes his stock with more than before if you steal his inventory first. |

Yes, I always scroll down to the bottom of the list because the items never seem to be in any kind of order. |
After getting my missing party member back i killed Croc, he has some very interesting goodies in an chest upstairs in his bedroom.....downside is he blocks the way to there thus he needs to be dispatched swiftly ;)

I'm curious why you have three slingers. Do you have three pure casters in your party? As far as I know, all other classes can use a bow or a crossbow. Except for the monk, I guess, but they should be in melee range most of the time.
One option is to give a priest or mage a quarterstaff. This is an extended weapon, so if they are in the center, they can attack creatures that are in front. That way, they will shoot for the first round of the fight, then switch to the staff for melee attacks. |
I don't know if this works in all situations, but with anna in Arnika, I saved before clicking on her to buy. If she didn't have what I wanted, I just reloaded. The inventory changes, even the spell books available.
Of course, once you've bought from that particular inventory, I don't know if the save/reload thing works. Seems to me it didn't when I tried later in the same day. So maybe once you've bought something you have to wait the three sleep periods for a new inventory. But then again, once she's restocked, the save/reload should work until you actually buy something. judee |
Hi,
I have found that stones are kind of a waste of time. They are really heavy and encumber your characters, and only the really good ones do any damage. What I did was give all of my warriors a Blunderbuss. Holds 2 shots, does up to 48 damage and the ammunition is pretty light. Its much better than slings and arrows, although not everyone can use them. My Ranger has the Elven Bow, but he now has 2 attacks with 3 strikes each. Uses up the arrows like no tomorrow, but I essentially just wait for a critical kill since he does them so often now. Unless I'm fighting a tough boss type fight, I don't give him any real power arrows. Also, the Mystery Ray is a nice weapon, anyone can use it and it has no ammo limit. In the hands of someone skilled in Modern weapon and Ranged Combat, it can be pretty powerful against the Savant Drones (double damage). If I give mine to Madras, he attacks 2 twice for 2 strikes each time. Not too shabby. I brought mine over from Wiz 7, and I know theres one in Wiz 8 somewhere. Hmm, maybe I can two of them!! What about the Gold Nuggets, anyone find them yet? Supposed the be the most powerful stone as I heard. Best Scronan |
I did the same thing... but I ran out of arrows. I learned from my to buy arrows all the time. As for stones not doing much damage - I don't buy stones, since I can typically find them on the ground. So I use them till they run out.
