My fighter is up to Level 10 now, and is striking multiple times. He also got the "Power Strike" trait (STR went to 100), so now with that and Berserk, he's hitting for major damage. Most of his strikes are no less than 35 points of damage, and on a few, he's dealt out 85 or more damage points!

Samurai's getting a lot better, too, but he still has yet a ways to go to catch up to the fighter!

Recommendation: Get your most critical attributes up to 100 ASAP so you can start learning the elite skills. They DO make all the difference!

Cheers,

Saz,

Allright! That's what I did with Sslar in the demo, had his power strike up to about 25 and he was dishing out the damage like no tomorrow. Scronan has only about 85 Strength, so he still has a way to go. I've only seen him do about 60 damage at best.

I'm still waiting on more elite classes, I've got to get some high level Alchemist spells. The Mages don't seem as powerful in this game, some of their spells aren't all that great.

Fighters are pretty cool in this game. When I was fighting the Don, he was the only one that could hit him on occaision.

I do have Powercast for my Mage though, heh, its quite nice.

Dear Scronan,

Mages aren't that powerful???? You're kidding! If not for Liselle, my elven mage, my party would have been toast multiple times. It takes a few casts, but she takes those monsters down. And thank heavens for my Priest's "silence" spell against some of those monsters. I guess it depends which spells you take.

And, yes, I've got Powercast for Liselle, and Iron Will (?) for Wulfgar, my Priest...hopefully those will start kicking in as well. Oh, and Narrh (my Felpurr Bard) got Reflextion, and his AC is skyrocketing...it's at 16 now.

I dunno about the Samurai and Ranger...unless something happens quickly, they're not going to be very effective spellcasters at all. It's certainly not like in the other Wizardries where they became great spellcasters early on. I'm beginning to think this game is one in which the basic roles are far superior to the elite roles: quite possibly, the best group would be one where you had two fighters, a priest, a bard, and two mages...and just stuck with that all the way through. I could be mistaken, though.

Cheers,

Hi Saz,

Oh, Mages are powerful, but as I was looking over spell list, it looks like the Alchemists get a lot better spells. Some of the Mage spells aren't all that effective (like Freeze, never works!). I mean, I have to get spells like Tsunami, Boiling Blood and all the others that the Alchemist can get, Death Cloud, etc. They look really interesting!

I think the programmers and designers really endeavored to create a game in which all of the classes are balanced. The Fighters are awesome, and so are the Rangers! Just get their Bow and Ranged combat skill up, and they are quite useful for picking off foes. Also finding items is great, I've found some cool stuff in Tryton with his help.

My plan is to later turn my Priest into a Lord, and my Mage into a Samurai (their former roles in Wiz 7). I figure once they learn all their spells, then I'll turn them into warriors. They still carried over some fighting skills that I can beef up later.

Not to mention, having good hit points will be nice, the poor mage only has 33 at level 10!

But alas, my Ranger does have very weak magic skills, since I've just focused on fighting skills. I may turn him into an Alchemist for a while to beef up his magic.

So many options, it makes my head spin!

~~sazerac~~

i'm still waiting for my game (ack!), but i have to agree with you, based on playing the demo. my mage had nearly 85% of the kills in her name. i was blown away when, at level 7, i checked her stats and she had, like, 400 kills!! by the time i had her up to almost Lvl 10, her fireballs were destroying groups of seekers, 'smiles' and 'evil' roaches.

by Lvl 10, my fighter had worked his way up to being a great partner to her carnage. so , i am really looking forward to having a basic party. i liked the bard's abilities so much, that i will prolly use one instead of a rogue. but that's still a toss up.

not having played the other wiz games, i don't really understand the elite and basic thing, but it seems to me that pure classes have a distinct advantage here.

hopefully, by nezt week, i will be able to find out for sure! ::smiles::
