I have uninstalled and re-installed baldurs gate on 2 occasions, both these times this has run perfectly, but i uninstalled it a just a few days ago and now when i try to re-install it, the installation program asks for a 5th disk...which i don't have and neither does the game..I tought this might have been some problem bewtween baldurs gate 1 being on my HD, so i decided to format my HD....once i did that the installation program still asked for a 5th CD...i really don't know what to do..could any one at all help me out..
all help appreciated as i Really really reallly want to get back into the game...
thanks..

maybe its because of your registration in your windows... maybe because you reinstalled it so many times that windows registry became haywired or something. just a hint but im not computer software programmer. if it really doesnt work then the problem may be the cd ... exchange it for a new one...GL

Hello, I have had the same problem with uninstaling BG2 and then having it ask for disk 5 when I goto reinstal. Apparently disk 5 is the bonus CD that was shipped out with preordered games. I have deleted all registry entries and removed all traces of BG2 from my computer and it still asks for disk 5. This only began happening after I installed the official patch so I can only assume that when it installed the bonus merchants it somehow entered into the computer that I had the bonus CD. Anyway I'd appreciate any help or comments on how to fix this problem. I've tried everything I can think of.

IIRC the bonus cd was distributed by Electronics Boutique and not Interplay. Therefore its registry keys may be in a different place.

However if the problem persists after a hard-drive reformat then it cant be that. Unless youve been increbibly stupid and copied your old regsitry over, and no one could be *that* daft, could they?

Im thinking that your CD1 is damaged. Its odd that this should happen so often because of that, but it is possible. Try *borrowing* another copy and installing from that. If that works its down to your CD and not the computer, if it dosent its down to your computer and im way out of my league.

Searcher & Obituary420,

there are some suggestions on the Bioware site about possible workarounds for the 'CD5' problem :
