The interesting idea came to me when I was posting my reply to the post of Tarlanon (and others) on Hivetyrants "I'm here to serve" post. It came down to talking about the sprites and the next phase of the art contest.
The interesting idea is that sprites are animated. thats what makes them sprites. And as such that they are animated, you could animate ANYTHING with them, like a torch burning on the wall (like FRUA did with color cycling), a door opening and a monster rushing out, a monster rushin up to you, even rain/snow visual effects. This idea all depends upon what the limitations of how it handles sprites are. I haven't been able to test this yet... becuz I have not been able to do anything DC related except check the msg board since the laptop went down (in a flaming ball somewhere over south america... just kidn.) I get the Laptop back TOMORO and I can try this idea out very soon after. If it holds true, then we've just overcame a few more of the limitations DC is trying to break. What say you, manikus???? Does this get you ready for some mod making???? SilentThief |
The problem with sprites is that they are only three frames. You can do as many frames as you want with small pics. But, the line between the two is really artificial. Sprites are just 3 framed small pics with transparency.
So- there are one of two things that I think we could do, ask CocoaSpud to allow sprites to be any amount of frames which can be sent in the event, or to allow small pictures to support transparency which would be set in the event. In other words, I am excited to see a wall sconce with a dancing flame above it. :D -manikus |
