it sure would be cool if we could post polls in this forum...ziroc?
anyway, i was wondering what resolution people most like creating adventures in? 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768. everything i've done has been for 640x480, but i've recently become motivated to do some at 1024x768. if i'm working at the higher resolution it would be fairly easy to make versions for each of the two lower resolutions, but i'm not going to bother if no one is using them. (or i'll do it for one of the two if people are using it but not the other, etc) -manikus |
Im trying to get all mine done in 1024 as the screen is bigger and the pictures alot crisper, and easier to see, the 1024 has lots more potential for cool graphics

here i am, working on some awesome new walls, and i go to test them out in dc and whammo! the coordinates are all off! i try using an easytex wall, and same problem. i even tried using kevin willie's format, and the coords are off.
i can and will change my config file, but i was just wondering at why none of them were on. i wasn't just off by a pixel here and there, there were huge chunks of black, as that's my transparent color. i also thought that since i'm now working at the higher res, that there would be a change in how my editor looked, i.e. more map room, but it is exactly the same. 1024x768 is the best resolution to work in, I agree. I just use 640x480 because I am (as I said before) a bad artist, and therefore all my pics are low-res. I.e. I'm too lazy. But to you dedicated people, I definitely recommend the 1024x768. It looks better and the boundaries are much smoother, since the colors can "blend" easier than in lower resolutions (of course, it's the same palette, but you know what I mean). Oh well, there goes my unrequested opinion.

Switching to a higher design res changes the config.txt file in the root install folder. Basically, the new config.txt file specifies different art coords, and adds the \DefaultArt\1024 or \DefaultArt\800 folder to the search path for default art. If the walls are not working in 1024 mode, compare the wall file you're using with the sample wall in the \DefaultArt\1024 folder. Also check the config.txt file in the root install folder to see if it mentions using 1024 coords. This info will be located near the top of the file. |
thanks for making changing resolutions so easy. with .890 all of my problems have gone away. :D
