I have some interesting ideas that means I have to ask some questions. In editing monsters, I had the idea that you could kill a monster, and that would trigger a summons for another. This could be applied in a battle where the party fights a dragon highlord and dragon (for an example), and you kill the dragon and it "summons" (?) the highlord who can still battle after the death of his mount. 2nd, is there a way to select one (or some) of the party for battle and leave others out? Kinda like Pool of radiance (Waaaayyyy back) and the training hall (where one character could battle himself).
Kinda thinking out some ideas I have SilentThief |
Hey Silentthief
I like your combat ideas. I missed having the single combat option and the adding of enemies into a fight halfway through in FRUA. I thought the combat with a single character vs another creature in Pool of Radiance was great, pity it wasn't kept in later games. I also liked the idea of having monsters join the combat in Treasures of the Savage Frontier, it was great! And I would also like to add the idea of having endless combat - like at the end of Gateway to the Savage Frontier. Certainly tests your party's capabilities to the max!! Cheers Warlock |
I agree!!!
All of those options were fantasitic and should definately be put in DC!!! |
i'm liking these ideas. it's been so long since i've played some of the goldbox games that i've forgotten some of the things you could do. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
...if i could only get my computer to run ten year old 5 1/4" floppies... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...les/DRUIDD.gif ------------------ manikus www.geocities.com/manikus5/dc/index.html |
Hey guys
That is why I keep an old pentium 133 with W95 booting to DOS so I can play those old Gold box games whenever I get a hunger pang for them http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Still, I wish they could have brought out some more titles under the gold box system, it would have been awesome the way they were going with Treasure of the Savage Frontier. Cheers Warlock |
I've got a Petium III 650MHz with 320MB of SDRAM and Voodoo4 4500 32MB 3D graphics. Runs almost everything ...
... except the old Gold Box games! For that I do the same as Warlock: boot up my old 486 DX4 100MHzhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif. They really need to bring out a PC AT emulator for modern PCshttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif. |
I think I can modify the existing combat event to allow for selection of a party member to participate in the combat. Then adjust the monster selection so enable creating a mirror copy of the party member as the opponent.
Allowing more monsters to show up in a battle would be good. I'm not sure of the best way to do it though. Most people will want to configure the conditions under which the extra monsters get added. A certain round, a certain monster death, or whatever. I'll add it to the list though and be thinking about it. ------------------ CocoaSpud Dungeon Craft Development Team http://uaf.sourceforge.net |
Probably kinda wierd to reply to you own message (like that guy who always talks to himself...)
Anyhow, here is another possible combat option. could you change the character icon from the characters choice to another during play? Is there a maximum limit to the number of characters (PC and NPC) in one battle? What if you had a way to select (the combat option of) mass combat. So your player icons become army icons (one for each character or less, but only up to 6...) and the computer could keep track of the number of troops killed instead of hp for your character. This would establish a whole other set of rules, so if the problems outweigh the benefits then I guess I'll just work around it. FRUA taugh us all to work around problems. SilentThief |
Hey,
This is an awesome idea for a game. I miss FRAU and I cannot find my manual so I can't play anymore. I like stringing encounters together. First a small band...then reinforcementss ...then I'd string an encounter to where I battled to the heart of the camp. What this would do would Cause the characters to fight a series of fights without the opportunity to rest. This would be a fix to what you are looking for until something else could be implemented. You just have a chain of encounter events. Mind you I have not played this game yet but I will download tonight. Peace... |
The character icons and portraits can be changed during the game. It's under the encamp->alter menu I think. The designer can choose a pool of images to make available to you during character creation and alter. You can add your own by copying your files to the design folder and renaming them properly. The icons are named icon1.pcx - icon50.pcx, the small pics (portraits) are spic1.pcx - spic50.pcx. The game will automatically load up files with those names when altering your character. The PCX extension is not important, any supported image format can be used.
You can also give a character a multi-icon image. Using the Logic Block event you can select which icon will used. Each icon is composed of two images, and each pair has an index (starts with 0 for first icon pair). Using Logic Block you set the index to another value and the game will offset into the icon image to retrieve that icon pair. Not sure if this is documented anywhere. There is currently a limit of 100 pc/npc/monsters in combat. ------------------ CocoaSpud Dungeon Craft Development Team http://uaf.sourceforge.net |
