I would like to use this program, but am not a programmer. What components or files do I need to start using this program? Do you need programming skills to use it?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards, Michael |
Hi
All you need to do is go to the Dungeon Craft website, to the Download section, (click here -> http://uaf.sourceforge.net/download.html and download DC Installer (3.14MB). It doesn't contain much in the way of art: you'll have to search round for that (try Magic Mirror website). You don't need to be programmer to use it unless you're going to be using the Logic Block event. Hope this helps. ------------------ Hey! Like RPGs? The help file is very sparse outside of the GPDL scripting and Logic Block stuff. Many of the concepts work just like they do in the Unlimited Adventures game designer that DC is based on.
Feel free to ask questions. ------------------ CocoaSpud Dungeon Craft Development Team http://uaf.sourceforge.net |
About art I have converted almost all of the UA art to work with DC. including Sprites, combat icons, Big and small pictures, walls and backdrops. I haven't worked on it for a while because I loved using the easy wall tex. and every new version of DC I tried IT will not change Wall formats in the INI to use Easy text.

I downloaded the latest version last night. Wall Formats work Perfectly now. Thanks Cocoa

Where is a good site to get art for this program? The Magic Mirror site didn't seem to be available when I tried it the other day.
Also, are there any in-depth tutorials (or any tutorials at all) about how do go about creating levels. I was fooling around with the program and tried adding an NPC, but couldn't get it to work properly. Tutorials or FAQs would be a big help. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Michael |
One other question -
How do you load/play downloaded modules? Thanks! Michael |
Hi RitingFool
There aren't many modules currently available for Dungeon Craft presently. This is due DC still being in 'production'. Once all the main features are complete, I suspect you'll see a ton of modules available. I know of one module that is available and that's currently on the Magic Mirror website, called 'The Last Leaves of Autumn' or something like that. ------------------ Hey! Like RPGs? About art - Most of the original UA art has been converted and is available at the Magic Mirror or the DC FTP site. I'll try to make the DC website a little more helpful with info and links in this regard.
About tutorials - None really. The help on GPDL and Logic Block is detailed, but the rest is not so good. I based most of DC on UA so it helps to be familiar with it. I agree DC needs better directions. Adding NPC - First create a new NPC under Global->NPC. Then set the edit mode to Place Events (click E on the toolbar), left click on a map square to bring up the event editor, select Add NPC event type (it will be already), click on Add button, click button on bottom of window labeled 'Add NPC' and select your newly created NPC. Click Ok, Close, and you should have an Add NPC event on your map. When you test your design and enter that square you will see whatever event text you added, then the NPC will be added to your party. There are several event triggers that can alter whether the event triggers or not, but the default is to always trigger. Hmm, now I'm only 2500 words away from a tutorial... Load/Play designs - Download the design, unzip into a folder that has extension 'dsn' as in 'TestDesign.dsn', start the editor and load/edit/test it. If you want to play it outside of the editor, you can copy the UAFEngine.exe to the folder and double-click it. The engine accepts command-line parameters so that a shortcut can be created to play all designs with one engine exec, but I don't think I put that into the docs. When you save a design the editor puts a shortcut there and you can copy it and modify it for each design folder. Available designs - There used to be two, now only one. The first design became unplayable due to a major overhaul in the way DC operates. The design loaded ok, but some of the events didn't work the same and so the design could not be played the same. The same auther, Harri Polsa, wrote both designs. The remaining is 'Last Days of Autumn' and it is a Sci-Fi design that revolves around his favorite female government agent/spy. He is currently working on a grandiose design. I helped test an early version that was already around 20MB in size. It is also a Sci-Fi setting. I have reports of several other people working on designs, but none have finished yet. Most fantasy settings will need magic/spells I suppose, so they are probably waiting on me to finish that part of DC. ------------------ CocoaSpud Dungeon Craft Development Team http://uaf.sourceforge.net |
I just downloaded it yesterday, great program.
Its very simple too so you donŽt need a tutorial even though setting events can sometimes be a bit trickey. I also think its really great that you can import your own fantasy artwork. Too bad the overal graphics suck so much, wenn will higher resolutions be possible? Well, im going back to work though iŽll be sure to drop by here later.
