So I created a character as sorcerer. However when I get it to level 3, I still don't get level 2 spells.

yes
Sorcs gain spells slower than mages. You'll get level 2 spells later

Nope. The sorcerer can cast those few spells he gets a lot more often than a wizard.

Nope. They're the best spellcasting class in the game! They just start off a bit slow, which is tough considering mages start off kind of slow as it is.

You really only need the Sleep spell at the beginning if you're in a party anyways. Level 2 is probably the worst level of spells, IMO.

With Stinking Cloud, Web, and Mirror Image? Say it ain't so!

Yeah, but sleep sucks if you plan on importing this character to BG2, where it's useless.

am i missing something? how did you make a sorcerer?

Fortunately, this is BG1 we are talking about. No one said anything about importing this sorcerer into BG2. Otherwise, yes, you would be right since sleep is pretty much pointless in BG2. However, mirror image is still an extremely useful spell, not only in BG1, but also in BG2.
