Knowing that watching movies in a language that one studies is great practice and that international cinema has a lot to offer, I'd love to see some Swedish, Russian and French movies.

I've seen the Swedish movie F***ing Åmål (Show me Love is the English title) but no other movies come to mind. I know about Brat I and II (Brat, pronounced brut, as in Brother in Russian, mind you ) and Amelie. What else?

Thanks in advance.

Russian: "Come and See". Wee bit haunting, but still good.
Swedish: 7th seal.
French: Au Revoir Les Enfants.

Le Pact de Loup (Brotherhood of the Wolf) and most of Luc Besson's films are the only french cinema I can recomend. (as they're the only ones I've seen)

French old school/family : La Gloire de mon Père

La Vie Rêvée des Anges is good, albeit depressing

And Le Placard (the closet) is just plain funny

As for Brotherhood of the Wolf...I could barely stay awake. Cool moments for sure, but, I won't be seeing that one again.

After looking up Luc Besson - that guy's prolific! He produced Transporter 1/2, The Fifth Element, Joan of Arc: The Messenger, and La Femme Nikita, but his project list is quite long.

From not so old (actually the second one is quite recent) french films, you could check out
-L'auberge Espagnole
and
-Les poupées russes

The films speak several languages (english, spanish, french and russian (only second one)). They were directed by the same person and are a continued storyline.

If you want stupid french comedies (actually quite funny at times) then try

-Le dîner de cons
and
-La cité de la peur

Ah.. Luc Besson made many of my favorite movies. Taxi (granted, I was practically the only who liked it), Fifth Element (most entertaining movie ever)and Brotherhood of the Wolf. (long, but good. Never got boring for a second) His Joan of Arc was, well.. not so good. But not as bad as most critics made it out to be.

"Jägarna" ("the Hunters") is a quite good Swedish movie.

As per Russian movies:

I can't remember the full name, but there is a cartoon liked by adults in Russia called something like, "Capitana Vrungele."

Also, I suggest the original Russian version of NightWatch.

Some good Swedish films:
Tillsammans (Together - which was made by the same guy that made Show me love).

Fyra nianser av brunt (Four shades of brown)

Sanger fran andra vaningen (Songs from the second floor)

And then there's Ondskan (Evil). But I haven't seen it... it was nominated for an Oscar though.
