All I can say is WOW! Great flick. Maybe another Oscar for Russell Crowe or Renee Zellweger? Director Opie done good... :D

Except in regards to the true story....

What part wasn't accurate? According to http://www.jamesjbraddock.com/ it seemed pretty close...

As far as I can tell, the movie portrays him as a foaming at the mouth <STRIKE> phycopath</STRIKE> <STRIKE>phsycopath. </STRIKE> nut. Just a nut. [ 06-04-2005, 09:13 PM: Message edited by: Sir Degrader ] |
I didn't get the impression Baer was a psychopath. Outside the ring they showed him as a spoiled playboy. Inside the ring he was more of a combination of Apollo Creed's "I'm so much better than you I can afford to play with you" attitude, and Ivan Drago's "If he dies, he dies (cause that's what happens when you get in the ring with me.)" From your link the Drago persona is wrong, but the rest seems right on.

I can't wait to see this movie, regardless of how they portray Baer. I'm pretty excited to see the Carnera / Baer fight scenes to see how they depict Carnera (the guy was a giant, but a HORRIBLE boxer). Should be cool. And Giamatti is supposed to be awesome in Braddock's corner.

ESPN page 2 comparing real world vs reel world happenings. The movie seems to be pretty right on in their estimation. |
