Can Xan only use the moonblade, or can others use the moonblade?

and while we're here, what are the special properties of the moonblade?

And if I remember rightly, it's just a normal longsword (1d8) that looks cool, and the special part about it is....

It allows Xan (a mage) to use a longsword, although the proficiency doesn't count as longsword (as mages cant have that).

It also gives a -1 bonus to Xan's armour class.</font>

Moonblades according to Forgotten Realms mythology/cosmology are special intelligent weapons that follow a family line and choose their bearer, no one not of the line can use one, and they tend to either deactivate (become nonmagical temporarily) for unworthy users, or slay an unworthy owner outright (slaying is the typical resolution, with deactivation being a very uncommon one, typically if the bearer is the last in his/her line and the sword is waiting for the next generation before it reawakens)

They are of course an elf only weapon, I don't believe even half elves can be tapped by the blades for ownership. A fun, but not overly useful item, especially since a mage should never get into melee combat.

Doesn't it give him 50% fire resistance? That's by far the most useful feature, I think.

It's not a useful item because it can only be used by Xan & Xan is such a pain that he should be ditched at the earliest opportunity.

Moonblades are used in the long process of selecting a ruler for the isle of Evermeet. A Moonblade chooses its owner, and in the case of this sword it has chosen the elf, Xan. Only Xan can use this blade, anyone else who tries will find themselves unable to lift the sword. This particular Moonblade gives resistance to fire and gives its user a bonus to his armor class.
