I just finished reading Cathcer in the Rye last night and honestly, I don't know what to think about it. It was way different then anything I've ever read. I did enjoy the book however it was really sketchy though. Anyway if you've ever read it what were your thoughts on it.

Not too fond of it, too descriptory, but not concrete, profanity is used just so it can be used. I don't think it's a bad book, just that there are so many better ones out there.

The movie Conspiracy Theory makes a great statement about the book, not sure what the statement was, but it's a good one :D

I don't know that an accurate statement can be made about that book. I enjoyed reading it, but really didn't get the point...

I liked the book. If you've heard the old song "Catcher in the Rye," you may be able to draw some metaphorical comparisons. Part of the point is that there isn't much of a point -- except the ducks, of course. And the park, and the city.

Part of the point of the novel in larger context was to challenge the cultural views at the time. Here you had this kid running around and buying prostitutes and smoking and cussing -- it was a real F-U to the establishment at the time. And, one that cut to the quick because it was a story about their own rich spoiled brat kids -- one that was all too close to the truth. {Not that any of these things make the book particularly good, mind you.}

If you want more salient things about this book, watch Will Smith's "sales pitch" bit in Six Degrees of Separation.
