This is going to require a stroke of luck, but i'm trying to track down four books that i read a few years ago. They're in a series and are set in a AD&D compatible world (as far as i my aging memory can remember!) but i can't remember any placenames enough to be sure. A lot of spells and abilities used certainly seem very familiar. All the usual critters like Orcs and Dragons are present as well.

All i can remember is the main character is a female wizard called Jalarial who is accompanied by a barbarian named Anvar. There's also a Dwarf in the party and i'm fairly sure one other. I remember them travelling to another plane/dimension in book 3 and also an aged sage called Shekiness who lives in these underground catacombs in the desert. I think he dies in the last book although he's cropped up throughout the series.

Like i said, it's a long shot, but i've googled all the names and tried Amazon but no luck without an author or book title. Then it occured to me that an RPG forum might be quite a good place to try :D If this jogs anyones memory, do please let me know! I know it's not much to go on, but I really enjoyed them first time round so I figured it was worth a try

Well... I've read allmost all Forgotten Realm and Dragonlance novels and I've never heard of those names... Maybe it's from Grayhawk or Dark Sun?

Have you tried doing a Google Search on those names?

Dreamer128 02-07-2004 02:45 PM

I checked it out for you. These books are from the The Zagor Chronicles. Also known under the name of 'legend of Zagor'. The writer is Ian Livingstone It is also a part of the Fighting Fantasy series.

and at the risk of wandering slightly off-topic, could either of you direct me towards a couple of 'essential' Forgotten Realms books that everybody should have read? About time to get myself further acquainted methinks

I did try a search as well, but I came up with the 'Fighting Fantasy' series but I couldn't believe that was it. I also suffered from an IW black out, and completely forgot about this after that. I'm glad to see someone found it though

Lol, i was only in my mid-teens when i read them...completely forgot they were by Livingstone, that man gets everywhere! Now the Baldurs Gate series has inspired me to get involved in some more 'hardcore' reading. I'd forgotten how much I used to enjoy fantasy. Who says computer games aren't a good thing? Thanks for your effort as well Link, the people on these forums are just wonderful!
